Carolyn Tam was diagnosed in 2008. Her brother was not a match for her and so her family made a public appeal in Hong Kong and Canada to find a donor to save her life. They ran several stem cell drives in the hopes of finding her match. Unfortunately, when they finally found a match for her, it was too late – her disease had progressed and she was unable to undergo a transplant. She passed away in 2009.
